UPA Pediatrician?
1:20p, 03/10/10
We are looking for a pediatrician for our child and have been referred to UPA. Among the doctors there, who would you recommend?
1:22p, 03/10/10
We have liked all of them, but there are some big differences in their mannerisms.

We use Dr. Tomlin as our primary - she is very straightforward and professional.

We use Dr Henderson and really like him. If he isn't there, our next choice is Dr Saenz.

+1 for Dr. Tomlin. Her proxy, Dr. Anderson-Brown has always been pleasant. We met with Dr. Henderson on one occasion. Having dealt both personally and professionally with this group, I can definitely recommend them.

It's hard to wrong at UPA. We use Dr. Schams and are VERY happy with him, but I must say we have encountered all of the other docs over the past 10 years and they are all good.

txgardengirl, you mentioned their difference in mannerisms...our 16 month old son is really shy around new people (as many kids are), but we've noticed that he warms up to people a lot quicker to folks who are gentle in nature and how they interact with him.

We obviously want a good doctor who knows their stuff, but I'd also like someone who has a gentle touch with really young ones.

Thanks for the feedback!

We love Henderson.

We use Henderson with Tomlin as our back up.

He's very gentle with the kids. I can't say enough good things about him.

d_s - I understand what you're saying.

I would go: Tomlin (if you want a female), Henderson (male), Schams (if you like to chat a lot , and then through the rest.

Any of the doctors would be happy to schedule a few minutes to meet you and your child I am sure.

You can schedule a consultation and get a feel for personality, interactions with the kid, etc. We're expecting our first baby soon and we met with 2 pediatricians at UPA and ended up picking Dr. Saenz.

Dr. Saenz definitely. We had a consult with him before our first child 5 years ago as well and we've been very happy with him. He sees both of our children now.

You really can't go wrong. We have Schams, but have no problem using another if he is not in or not on call.
3:21p, 03/10/10
We love Dr. Henderson, and his nurse is wonderful also! He is so personable and never does anything that's not necessary!

We've always used Dr Parr with no issues at all. He listens, understands and directs in a very professional manner.

You cant go wrong with UPA in my opinion.

We started out with Dr Matthews 18 years ago but have seen Dr. Parr, Dr Saenz, Ms Riley, Dr Anderson-Brown and Dr Schams. Our daughter switched herself to Dr Schams about 3 years ago. We have never been displeased or uncomfortable with any of the doctors or Ms Riley at UPA.

We're happy with Dr. Henderson for our kids.

Chris Saenz

Henderson for our three!

Saenz

Henderson is our son's primary, but like others, we have seen multiple doctors there, and have yet to find one we didn't like.
9:18p, 03/10/10
Tomlin was our primary for about 6 years. Also really liked Anderson-Brown, Henderson and Saenz.

Saw Schams once and he gave us what I think was bad advice so we didn't really care for him all that much.

My vote for a shy kid is Henderson.

We have seen them all multiple times.

I see Dr. Sullivan.. she is the new doctor on the UPA staff, but she is really good.. she is extremely smart and practical.
2:18p, 03/11/10
I do not think you can go wrong with any of them at the UPA. Parr was my pediatrician as a child/youth and now I take my two children to him. I have always been happy with the UPA and am happy to use ANY of the doctors. My personal favorites are Parr, Henderson and Tomlin. Good luck with your decision!

Dr. Schams is awesome!!!
7:59p, 03/11/10
We use Dr. Schams but we have seen every doc in the bunch. They are all great. Open weekends too.

We (my daughter) sees Sullivan. She's new to the practice but I haven't found anything about her that we don't like about her. Plus, we haven't had to wait more than a couple minutes to see her each time we are there!
4:54p, 03/12/10
One more for Dr Henderson. We have seen all of the Dr's there the multiple times we have gone there on the weekends and I still like Dr Hendersons mannerisms the best.

He is very good with my son, will answer all of my 3 year olds questions, lets him sit in one of our laps for the checkup if that is what he wants to do ect. More importantly I don't feal rushed. He will sit there and answer all my questions without making me feel dumb and never rush us.

Dr Shams would be our second choice if we had one. I hear their new Dr that goes to the Hospitals for newborn checkups is great as well.
7:08p, 03/12/10
So they finally stopped using the NICU doc for hospital visits? That's good to hear.
11:40p, 03/12/10
Dr. Henderson is our son's doc. We love him. Dr. Parr is the backup and he's great also.
