Just drove down Hwy 40 and saw dirt moving and heavy equipment in the shadow of the water tower.
South CS HEB is on it's way!!!
Yup they actually got started on Friday. About time!
The College Station HEB's are going to be easy to find-just tell people-"Look next to the water tower" Pretty smart deal on the land-who want's to live in the shadow of a water tower? (Actually in Groom, TX) [This message has been edited by Aggiefan54 (edited 2/15/2010 5:50p).]

does BCS really have enough people to support 4 HEB's
The people at HEB seem to think so.
Given how the only thing that keeps me from shopping at HEB is location, I think they do. Aside from the Kroger on Rock Prairie, the closest grocery store is the other (small) Kroger at SW Parkway. There are a lot of houses going in south of Rock Prairie and I know I plan on shopping at HEB once it's finished.

I tried to go to the CS HEB on Friday after work and couldn't find a parking place.
The HEB's are always packed.. They can definitely use another one.
How do I protest this? How dare a private company buy land at a major intersection near my neighborhood and build a major retail store? The nerve of some people!!!
Just contact the CoCS. They can put a stop to any major development.
I shop at Krogers for convienence, HEB will be high on my list when it opens up.
 ... 'Nuff said ...
I miss HEB, best place ever. HEB has no desire to come to DFW, cherish it!
Figures. They start building down there just as I move away. Three years of dealing with crappy Kroger and now I'm on the other side of town... shopping at a HEB.
Did anyone else but me notice that they've nearly driven everyone else out of town? I don't even know where to buy food in Bryan besides at HEB and Wal-Mart ... and why in the hell would I shop at Wal-Mart?
More employment opportunities for the May's TAMU graduates of 2010!
It's not that I wouldn't buy groceries at Wal-Mart. It's that I'm grateful we've got HEB so I don't have to.
I shop at the Kroger in Bryan. But if you move to the boonies of Bryan, then the ghetto HEB is closer

Welcome to "Tower Shadows," your new home in the shadow of the tower. Conveniently located near shopping with easy highway access to Texas A&M, Texas World Speedway and the Jockey Lot. Priced to sell for the new college graduate from the $150,000's.
Or maybe they are shooting for the Navasota North communities, or overflow from Martha's Bloomers.

Speck, I hear that hippie guy has opened a retail commune just down the road from My (well, actually your) HEB.
That Kroger on Longmire will be in trouble once this HEB opens.... it will essentially become a big convenience store.
Nope, the Kroger will be remodeled to a Super Walmart!
Update: they are moving a LOT of dirt now! The scrapers are basically digging a hole into the side of that hill to flatten out a spot for construction. FINALLY - some progress!

Yep, HEB, Lowes, St. Joseph, Scott & White, etc. are all idiots for building that far south. They can't possibly know what they are doing since no one lives that far south. I predict that HEB will have to shut down its doors within 6 months because they won't have any customers. Same with Lowes. Seriously, retail follows rooftops. If these companies didn't think there were enough residents within a certain distance to support their stores, they wouldn't open it. Period.

Someone should read them the bedtime story called "Albertsons in Townshire"

It will be nice to have things on the south side of town.
There is Los HEB in Bryan, always, always, always crowded.
There is the A&M HEB for the College Students on Texas.
In September, there will finally be an HEB for the rest of us.
Also nice to not have to go all the way into Bryan to get some stuff for the house. The new Lowes will give me back an hour of my saturdays.

Just wish they would make this new HEB more like a Central Market. I mean, why not? Its close to the high-end homes anyway and there has to be demand for some higher end products that the regular HEB, Kroger and Albertson's doesn't provide.

Looking forward to having another option in South College Station (near work). Still miss Randall's...but I digress..

hopefully the water tower won't topple over after a big rain

Someone doesn't understand Central Market's target audience and marketability. The have ONE store in San Antonio (a town of over 1 million people and it's in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods). They have ONE store in Houston...similar set up to San Antonio and Houston is much larger than San Antonio. They have 4 stores (largest concentration) in the ENTIRE DFW area. There is NO WAY a Central Market will ever survive in little ol' College Station. No freaking way. Their products are too specialized, too costly and too perishable to support our little market. I'd love to see some of the Central Market ideas in the new HEB, but it wouldn't make it.

You people questioning the viability of that location really don't have a clue.
That area has been WAY underserved for 2 years now. Lowes and HEB don't just build on a whim. This HEB will capture most of the 77845 market share. The current College Station HEB is the most congested store I have ever seen on a daily basis. A good percentage of their business comes from South of 2818.
The Rock Prairie Kroger does pretty well, in spite of the fact that a lot of people pass by it on their way to HEB on Holleman. That Kroger is about to be canibalized by HEB at the end of the year.
