Teed Off at drivers in the University Center Garage!!
2:27p, 11/20/09
I'm teed off at the people driving in the University Center Garage last night after the Riverdance performance.

Yes, it can be slow to get out of a parking garage, I understand that. You people that post on these threads and talk about how you lived in Houston and you can drive circles around us like Speed Racer in the Mach 5 should really post on this thread. In this case, your normal attitude of "You B/CS'ers are all hicks and can't navigate parking that is not all ground lever" would be correct.

At one point on Level 3 last night, we sat in line for close to ten minutes while j.a. after j.a. tried to back out of their parking space and muscle into the line heading to the exit, even though there was no space in the line.

My wife had her camera phone ready to take footage of a potential altercation between a mini-van driver and an SUV/crossover driver that both tried to back out at the same time and occupy a non-existent space in the line. Thankfully, they both stayed in their vehicles, but we weren't sure they were going to.

Memo to drivers in this area: stop being so self-important and thinking that you need to push your way into every situation involving a vehicle.

Relax. Don't do it.

I park in that lot every day and completely sympathize with you and the other drivers in that situation. The design of the garage is terrible, and backing out during times of heavy congestion is not fun. While I dont advocate screaming and the likes, a sense of frustration is well warranted. The problem is the machines are terribly inconsistant, and the entire ticketing structure is outdated. Instead of having the pay system in the UCX like the northside garage, they have remained dedicated to the current system to the detriment its occupants.

I was on level two of the parking garage in that mess. It was pretty bad. Should have had more direction outside to make sure things kept moving

We heard allot of horn honking, but had no altercations where we were at

When things like this happen, I like just to chill there and watch the j.a.'s go at it. It's like an encore after the show.

"Me first, me first" they seem to say.

nnichols - parking is free for the OPAS patrons. The crossarm is raised to allow a speedier exit from the garage. The problem is just the sheer number of vehicles all headed in the same direction.

When I had season passes to OPAS, I arrived a bit early to the parking garage and backed into a parking space close to the exit. I was then able to get of there quickly and before riots broke out.

I made that mistake once for the Bob Wills tribute a year or two ago. Never again. It was awful. I did not try to force my way out I sat there and waited for some kind hearted person in line to let me out but alas they were all jackasses like you forcing people to create a space or die there.

no it is not free - according to Ann Black with OPAS it is included in the OPAS ticket price.

but nnichols tries to blame it on the equipment instead of their failure to recognize that it takes some time to unload 500 cars out of a garage because there are only 4 exit lanes. Best strategy is to chill out and wait your turn or just stay home so we don't have to read all your whining......

Always back into when possible at any venue where parking will be a mess. It is way easier to pull straight out.

how do you back into a space when it is one-way traffic?

I parked in one of the spaces at the top and across the row to heading to the exit. Since I arrived early, there weren't many cars in the area so there was plenty of room to maneuver. I turned down the row and then backed into the spot behind me.

hmmmmm.... this is from the TS web page: Vehicles parked in garages or in angled parking on one-way streets must be parked head-in.

I'm surprised you haven't been cited for this?
3:34p, 11/20/09
Sigh sumaggie, the key words you missed were "WHEN POSSIBLE".

Yes some spots you can some you cannot in the garage. Some put you in the wrong direction, not all of them. Hence the "WHEN POSSIBLE" comes into play.
3:35p, 11/20/09
Never once been cited and I have done this forever.
3:39p, 11/20/09
I must have missed the "WHEN POSSIBLE" part in their regulations..... sigh

HAHAHAHAHA!! If you think one night in one garage was fun.... Try towing a vehicle out of ANY garage for any reason at all, be it PTTS or to a shop. If its around 8, 9, 12, 2, or 5 I am S.O.L. I have seem some funny stuff and some scary stuff. And if I have to take it out backwards for some reason, people tend to get a little angry.
