Any suggestions on an eye doctor for contacts and glasses. I've been to Crystal Vision for the past several years, but am not happy with their services any longer. I need to get fitted for special contacts and I'm on the university insurance.

We go to Dr. Greene at Greene Eyes in the Tejas Center in Bryan and we have been very happy with him. He is on the university's insurance. http://greeneeyes.optometry.net/PracticeTemplates/index.aspx?user_data_id=2598&menu_id=6733

I can't remember the name of the Dr., but i really enjoyed the service there. It was in the same complex of Albertson's and Cotton Patch. I believe right next door to GNC.
The Doc was really good, and showed me everything he saw and told me what exactly was going on.

Dr. Shini, and I agree with you 100% http://www.eyetrendscollegestation.com/

I use Dr. Maggs at Texas State Optical next to the Kroger on SW Parkway

I use the docs at S&W. Our daughter gives Greene Eyes a top rating, and one of my coworkers is really impressed with Belinda Dobson at The Eye Care Center (29th & Villa Maria).

I've been very happy with Dr. Marr at the Marr Eye Center

I would never recommend Green Eyes, too much personal issues with their dr's. I've been to Crystal Vision Center for YEARS and they do a fantastic job! I've never had any complaints and the service is always professional. But I guess thats just me. Im compliant with my contacts and follow the directions my Dr gives me. I have referred hundreds of my friends to them. They go over and above to help me on many occassions. So Im sorry to say, but it sounds like to me that you were not doing as you were told. Or sometimes, there's just a conflict in personalities. Good luck in your search.

Stay away from that outfit next to Lens Crafters in the mall. The female Dr. there is a JOKE! My insurance changed and I wound up there and got the worst script of my life. She argued with me and said that one thing looked clearer than another, crazy huh? I wound up paying out of pocket for an exam at Greene Eyes. I've used them for years and have no problems at all.

Dravensgirl-
I always completely follow all rules with my glasses and contacts- its a customer service issue with Crystal Vision from a while ago. I've been with them for YEARS too- it's unfortunate.
I think I will try Greeneyes this time. I wish more were on the insurance.
What is the "personal" issues you were referring to? As long as they can check me accurately and get what I need, that's all I care about.

Its dravengirls 1st post. Obviously a disgruntled ex worker or their competition that she was touting.

+1 for Texas Regional Eye Center

+1 for Mindi Greene at Greene Eyes. I thought that she was awesome and considered all my issues before prescribing. (wanting color lenses AND bifocal correction for example)

I really like both Dr. Marr and everyone at Greene Eyes...

dr ann wild. awesome. thorough. on top of all current info. and practices. Buyng your glasses or contacts from her is optional. She is the best optometrist in town. If you do use her for glasses her optician is also the best around
|
|
|
Best optometrist in town, hands down, is Dr. Allison. After him, I'd go with Dr. Marr's group and then the docs at walmart. Or, drive down to Katy and see me and my crew!

KewlChick,
Sorry did not mean to come off too negative, like I said I've been going there for years and use to have issues with not following instructions, my fault, not theirs. I know Im new at this but this is the first time I've actually posted on here. The reason I chose to now is that I love that place. I know that not everyone has the same experience every time. I have notice the last few years a change in personnel and perhaps that what you did not like, but Dr's Yorke and Brice, have always treated me well. I have an appointment next week with them, so anything I should look out for, please let me know. And again, good luck in your search. I do have to say one thing on your search, Dr Wild is a great dr too and you may find you like her very much.

Optometrist = A licensed professional specializing in vision correction.
Ophthalmologist = A Medical Doctor specializing in anatomy, functions and diseases of the eye.
One should have a regular eye exam with an ophthalmologist every two years.

Going to an ophthalmologist without needing to is wasting money. If you are fairly old with a history of eye disease, wouldn't hurt you, but any optometrist that is up to snuff will be just as good at diagnosing eye disease as an ophthalmologist. Now, getting dilated or having an Optos retinal map every two years is much better advice.

+1 Optometrists are just as qualified, if not better qualified in my experience, to diagnose and treat. If you see an MD you pay for an MD with the same service as an OD.

Dravensgirl, No problem. I don't want to throw Brice or Yorke under the bus, as they have both been very nice to me. It was actually the service from the administrative staff that has me running and screaming. I have had problems in the past with the staff and billing, but kept thinking "next year" would be better- but it hasn't gotten better, so I'm moving on.
