Where can I get a good one in town?

Thanks, now I want Must Be Heaven for lunch. I love their pies.

Sounds like there is a potential market here. I would pay for anyone who could make pies like good ole mom did. My wife tries but bless her heart, not the same. I bet there is someone who will take orders for home made pies, if they are good then word of mouth and repeat business should make for good business.

Hullabaloo Diner!!! Yum....

I've always been a fan of Must Be Heaven's dutch apple pie. So good!

Must Be Heaven has great pies! and lots of choices. I'll go by there every once in a while and get a slice to go. The only pie of theirs I really wasn't a fan of was their apple pie....way too much crust/topping and not enough filling for me.

I use to run a local bakery. I would be happy to hook you up with one. My parents owned a catering business since I was 12 and I started baking pies then for local restuarants so email me at mswtpea716@aol.com is you might be interested.

Your Mom!!
(I can finally post this response on this forum and not get in trouble!)

Oh, I got caught up there and forgot to mention that Greenhouse Bakery makes a lot of great items from scratch.

I haven't been impressed with Must Be Heaven chocolate or lemon pies. Chocolate tasted like a tootsie roll and the lemon was not "lemony" enough for me--it was just yellow with a little sourness. Dutch apple is good, as is the coconut.

Is "Must Be heaven" the place right by The Med and J&J Bistro?
If so, I had pie from there (lemon meringue) that was worse than the Mrs. Baird lemon pie things you get a gas stations. Awful!

That's the place--and yes, your description of the lemon pie is spot on.

Hullabaloo's is taking Thanksgiving pie orders.. all of our pies will be "scratch made" (buttermilk, banana cream, coconut cream, chocolate meringue, lemon meringue, chocolate chip, key lime, pecan, apple crumb) Call or come by to place an order.

A&M UMC is selling homemade pies to benefit the Artistic Adventures Children's Choir and the Music & Arts Ministry. They are delicious, and you can support a good cause! Order through Friday ($10 each) and you can pick them up next Tues or Wed... Here is the info/order form:

Paula Dean is coming out with her brand of pies at super markets, I don't know if they are out yet.

If you have access to a kitchen, make it yourself! It is not at all difficult. Chronicle had a good article yesterday on apple gallettes--very easy and simple, but delicious. Or a tarte Tatin--an upside down apple pie. Luby's has excellent pies and reasonable prices. Lemon meringue is really good. Also, coconut. If you travel north on I-45, Sam's in Fairfield--excellent!! Also, Schulenburg, Frank's or Oakridge Smokehouse.
