Okay so when The Date and I are looking to go out to eat, it takes us forever to decide on a place. We both prefer to eat at locally owned places, but combing through Aggieland Menus takes forever. Let's create a list here and I'll bookmark it and use it next time I need an idea. (ftr we're headed to Shipwreck tonight ) My faves: Southern Comfort Casa Rod Los Nortenos La Riviera The Hook @ Lake Bryan Spice Bowl Shish Kabob (and I'll go ahead and include Stover Boys so we can get that one out of the way and hopefully keep this thread on track) [This message has been edited by rhoswen (edited 11/9/2009 4:29p).]

Shipwreck Grill was really good when I went last week. I also always enjoy Papa Perez, Koppe Bridge, and Stover Boys.

My list's like Charlie's -- he must have good taste. Hullabaloo Diner P.Madden's Square One Bistro All the Eccell Group Restaurants Christopher's would be in that list, but they're dead to me since they tried to serve me moldy wine.

Junek's BBQ
The Hook(Lakeside Icehouse) is managed by an out of town group I believe. Some deal where they manage and BTU owns it and takes % of profits or something. Not 100% sure on the details but something like that.

What's the Mexican place that's just south of Brazos Natural Foods? Las Lomas or something like that? I've had great mexican food there a few times, and the place never seems to be busy.

Pita Pit. Both in town are locally owned and operated by the same people. Also Sweet Eugene's.

Is T Jin's locally owned?

I used to eat at Tampico in west Bryan 20 years ago. Does anyone know if it's still open? It's off Commerce which is off 28th street (the street that goes by the old hospital). I always enjoyed it along with the other downtown Bryan Mexican food. I don't know if it would qualify as a date place, but definitely a lunch place. Come to think, it may have been open only at lunch.

After dinner go try the new wine bar in downtown Bryan, Downtown Uncorked, for dessert and a glass of wine...
|
|
|
Los Molcahetes on the Tejas shopping center. Everything is homemade including the Mole. (not pronounced with a long "o" and a silent "e". juts phonetically but in spanish...sounds like Ole! There is also a most AWSOME dive even on a date. I just call it "dining al fresco". on Bryan avenue passed MLK there is a small restaurant and drive through called El Tio. Try the Torta de Carne Asada and to drink an "Agua de Melon"! OMGoodness. Best thing you ever had. They stay open till 2 or 3 AM on the weekends. Great after a date of dancing and a few drinks. Have a great date night.

I am pretty sure they are no longer open. They changed hands a couple of times recently but I think currently they are closed. Which is a shame, they were delish. Hopefully they will open back up if they are closed. Edit to add a few of my faves: Mi Pueblito Any within the Eccell Group The Longhorn Tavern The Corner - it's a "bar and grill" however they have excellent chicken tacos Casa Rod La Botana Gina's Papa Perez (I enjoy Mexican Food!) Tampico will be re-opening before the end of the year, if all goes according to plan.

Is the plan an early parole for Big Q?

We should all go and get a Hot Dog at Leanna's Bus in Wellborn. The Dogs are amazing, and they are nice folks.

If you are in the mood for pizza, I recently discovered Leaning Tower Pizza. Me and the Honey order from here all the time. It's the best pizza I've had in a long time.
Also, they deliver for free! That helps on busy days when we both have work and can't swing by and pick it up.
