Coming & Going 2.0 (retail, restaurants, businesses, etc)

20 pages and 591 replies is a bit cumbersome. So, we'll start a fresh thread and pick up where the last left off.

Originally started by bcstx06. The broken out list seemed harder to follow and required more scrolling. However, if a development has opened or something has closed permanently, then it will stay on the list for a short while longer before being deleted completely.

As threads and messages are posted here or in other threads, I'll try to update this list and cite the poster. After each round of edits, changes are marked in bold.

Thanks for keeping this up TxDragonFly...

I believe the C&J BBQ has re-opened now.
10:19a, 09/18/08
Thanks again for keeping this organized, fly! I just skimmed through the whole list again for the first time in awhile, and found a few quibbles:

1) The first link listed for the Bryan Towne Center is broken (HTTP 404—poor website management by Lauth).

2) All of the links pointing to www.theeagle.com were broken when The Eagle redesigned their website. However, the old site is archived at theeagle.com, and removing the leading "www." from the links will fix them.

3) The LoopNet listing for Mr. Gatti's/GattiTown has changed from "no longer available" to available "Immediately."
10:38a, 09/18/08
Train With charlie has a new location and is no longer in the AggieDome (Aggieland Fitness Dome). It's on Longmire.

2:11a, 09/19/08
I work next to the Library and today somebody inside of the Library was hammering on the wall. Tomorrow I will step out and see if there is a permit on their front door.
5:15a, 09/19/08
I remember looking inside the location of the old flower shop? next to Schotzi's on Northgate during the music fest, and they had gutted the location except for the facade and are doing masonry work on the inside. I think it's supposed to become an Aquarium bar.
6:46a, 09/19/08
According to CNN Money (and several other news outlets):

"(Associated Press) - Discount retailer 99 Cents Only Stores says it will leave the Texas market, closing 48 stores because operations are unprofitable."

There are two here:
Bryan: 2104 S. Texas Avenue
College Station: 1200 Harvey Road

12:58p, 09/19/08
I can't believe that Oxford Street is closed. They had the best salad bar.
4:00p, 09/19/08
I agree with whosaidthat, Oxford Street had the best salad bar. Does anyone know why they closed.
5:39p, 09/19/08
Whatever is going up next to the carwash looks to be an additional service to go with the carwash. I think it may be a pull through like at Wolf Pen Creek.

Oxford Street is good, but Jason's Deli is just as good or better.

I was changing channels when I saw on the College Station Channel a possible new Chillis or Applebees (can't remember) in South College Station. And Lowes was looking to buy land in the same area.

Is everybody serious about Oxford Street?? It was like a tired, redone Steak and Ale from 1985. Ridiculous that it stayed in business that long. Shows how many people out there don't know good food from bad food.
10:49a, 09/20/08
We went to Longhorn Steakhouse last week and I asked Rita about the move. She said they were moving out on 21 (winery area?) where they bought land and they will build their new restaurant in a metal building, country style with a small country store in the front of it. She was hoping she could take the decor that she has now to the new restaurant. She wasnt sure of an opening date yet.

Also, Papa Perez (downtown Bryan) has purchased the building next door to them (Radio station?) and have now expanded their dining area.

Has anyone tried the new restaurant in the Lacks shopping center called "Comfort Cafe"? (Its near the Barber Shop)

Thank you for the hard work of putting this list together!
9:05p, 09/20/08
Shellenberger's old building is now a Sprouts and a Lew's. Each looks to be taking 1/2 the building. Lew's appears to be a men's store and I can't tell what Sprouts is. I think I will pop in and next week and see what they are for sure.
11:00p, 09/20/08
denied - Sprout is a "branch" of Old Bryan Marketplace.

http://sproutoldbryan.com/
11:03p, 09/20/08
Also, slyk had a thread today that the new Shipley's is open.
